Reading Wrap Up: 2019

Happy New Year's Eve! It's almost the end of 2019 - how did that happen??

Before the clock strikes midnight, bringing in the new year and turning Cinderella into a 2020 pumpkin, I wanted to share with you all the books I read this year! The good, the bad, the boring, the best - all the books!

Just as a note, I use the Goodreads rating system as described below:

1 star: did not like it
2 star: it was ok
3 star: liked it
4 star: really liked it
5 star: it was amazing

(Another note, most of the books listed below are from the general book market and may contain content that is mature for some readers. The mention of any book listed does not equal my recommendation to all readers.)

I am pretty generous with my stars *facepalm* but there were definitely some books I didn't love this year. So without further ado, my book list!

What surprised me about my book list this year?
This was one of the first years I really dived into the world of YA books so I found quite a few treasures that I had never heard of. I also subscribed to Book of the Month YA and Owlcrate which brought me in touch with more new releases and some awesome bookish goodies. In addition, I tried to branch out on genres as well as mediums for reading. Reading graphic novels was fun to get out of my reading slumps.

What did I learn this year about reading?
Something I wish I figured out sooner is that I can DNF ("do not finish") books and no "reading police" or reader's guilt will come after me. This year, I pushed through a handful of books I really wish I had just put down. Reading is something I love to do and if I’m not enjoying the book, I can just stop and move onto something I will love!

What reading goals do I have for 2020?
I’m aiming to read 30 books this next year. I am hoping to read more classics and be more intentional in which books I choose to read. I'm also want to pre-order some of my highly anticipated books. *dances with excitement*

What are your most anticipated reads of 2020?
*rolls out a looong list and clears throat*

- Rogue Princess by B.R. Myers (gender-swapped sci-if Cinderella UM YES!)
- Bone Crier’s Moon by Kathryn Purdie (like underworlds, a magical but dangerous force of women, revenge, and doomed love)
- Splinters of Scarlet by  Emily Bain Murphy (Essentially Downton Abbey with magic!!!)
- Calamity Jane by Hand, Aston, and Meadows (The next in the The Lady Janies books!! Cowgirls and werewolves? Yes please!!!)
- Seasons of the Storm by Elle Cosimano (The seasons are personified and hunting each other plus there’s like forbidden love, so yeah)
- The Princess Will Save You by Sarah Henning (it’s inspired by Princess Bride! WHAT?!?!?!)
- The Captive Kingdom by Jennifer A. Nielson (I AM SO EXCITED! IT'S THE 4TH BOOK IN THE ASCENDANCE TRILOGY THAT IS NOW A QUARTET!! WE GET MORE SAGE AND I AM HAPPY!!!)

And that's only my MOST anticipated reads!!

BONUS: What writing goals do I have for 2020?
I would really like to finish the first draft of my WIP The Deadly BINGO Society and start to get some writers to critique the story so that I can move forward with edits and rewrites. I would also like to write a couple short stories through the year to keep my creative juices flowing. *finger guns*
(Depending on how the year goes, I may start a rough outline on a fantasy series idea that I've had in my head for about 7 years now....)

Can't wait to share my reading journey with you in 2020! Until next year!
