Space Girl Summer

There is a vibe for every type of summer for every type of girl. Hot Girl Summer, Sad Girl Summer, Hobbit Girl Summer, Austen Girl Summer, the list could go on and on. This year, I would like to introduce a new model. I'd like to propose (drumroll please) ...

Space Girl Summer™

Pretty cool, right? ;) Although I am not the first person to come up with this phrase, the idea hit me the other day and I couldn't get it out of my head. An entire summer of keeping my heads up in the stars, my nose in sci-fi books, and embracing the wonder and slight cheesiness of my favorite space films. (Of course, you don't have to be a girl to enjoy these things but since I am a girl, that's the wording I'm sticking with.)

So, whether you're a Star Wars/Trek fan, love staring up at the stars, have been a nerd for most of your life, or just want a solid dose of good ol' fashioned sci-fi, consider joining me in my Space Girl Summer™ adventures! ;)

Before I launch into my plans, I'd like to share a verse I stumbled across that has been speaking to me this season.

"Lift up your eyes on high and see who has created these stars,
The One who leads forth their host by number,
He calls them all by name;
Because of the greatness of His might and the strength of His power,
Not one of them is missing."
Isaiah 40:26

God knows each star by it's name and can keep track of each one. We are worth more than the stars which means that you are never forgotten or lost in God's eyes. Your good days, bad days, the light and the dark in your life, it all matters to God. <3

Alright, grab your space helmets 'cuz here we go ;)

The official rules for Space Girl Summer™:
1. Look for adventure and wonder in whatever you do
2. Embrace the nerd and just have fun
3. Don't forget to look up at the stars and see beauty in the dark

Space Girl Summer™ Books:
I really want to fill my summer TBR with lots of books that fit the Space Girl Summer vibe but there are many stories I've read in previous years that I want to share this you as well. Below are some recommendations for your TBR as well as hopefuls for my own.

Heart of Iron Duology by Ashley Poston

Rogue Princess by B.R. Myer

Illuminae Files Trilogy by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman

Quintessence by Jess Redman

Once Upon a Con Trilogy by Ashley Poston

Skyward by Brandon Sanderson

The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer

Rook Di Goo by Jenni Sauer

Starflight by Melissa Landers

I've been a Star Wars fan for as long as I can remember but I've only just started reading the books. There are so many to choose from (both canon and legends) so I can't possibly include them all but below are SW books I've been reading or hope to read this summer!

Star Wars: Brotherhood by Mike Chen

Star Wars: Poe Dameron comics Vol 1-5 by Charles Soule

Star Wars: Lost Stars by Claudia Gray

Star Wars: Padawan by Kiersten White

Star Wars: Ahsoka by E.K. Johnston

Star Wars: Poe Dameron | Free Fall by Alex Segura

7 Things to Do for Your Space Girl Summer™:
Space Girl Summer doesn't *just* have to be reading - there are lots of things you can do to embody the vibe. Here are a few things I hope to incorporate into my summer!

1. Watch your favorite sci-fi/space movies (I recently saw Dune, I've been rewatching some of my favorite Star Wars movies, and I'm hoping to see Lightyear soon!)
2. Stargaze on the roof
3. Create a space girl playlist (I'm going for 80s spacey vibes but you do whatever you want!)
4. Drink blue milk inspired by Star Wars (aka butterfly pea milk tea - I'm obsessed)
5. Find a new favorite constellation/planet
6. Eat astronaut ice cream (I've been wanting to try this for a while)
7. Create a space creature to enjoy your adventures with (I'm seriously thinking about crocheting myself a porg)

And that's it! I hope you'll consider joining me in a summer full of adventure, wonder, and hope. Happy Space Girl Summer™ bookworms! <3
