Reading Wrap Up: 2020

Happy (slightly belated) New Year bookworms!!

Wow 2020 was the longest shortest year ever. This past year threw a lot at everyone but we made it you guys!!! Thankfully it’s 2021 now! But before the year really gets rolling with whatever it has planned for us, I would like to share all the books I read in 2020 with you!

Just as a note, I use the Goodreads rating system as described below:

1 star: did not like it
2 star: it was ok
3 star: liked it
4 star: really liked it
5 star: it was amazing

(Another note, most of the books listed below are from the general book market and may contain content that is mature for some readers. The mention of any book listed does not equal my recommendation to all readers.)

I found some new favorites this year but I also read some doozies... Below, I have included a list of all the books I read this year with their star ratings. Also, because there are so many, I've highlighted my top favorite reads of the year if you just want to skim the list instead ;) So without further ado, my year in books!

What surprised me about my book list this year?
My initial goal was to read 30 books and somehow I more than doubled that?? So that was pretty surprising. I also read a wide variety of books including graphic novels, indie published books, and new adult along with my typical YA reads.

What did I learn this year about reading?
I learned that I am a mood reader and even if I plan out an extensive monthly TBR, I will most likely feel like reading something else. I also tried a variety of popular novels and found some new favorite books, series, and authors! I’m not prone to wanting to read the most hyped or well-known books but I’m glad I did!

What reading goals do I have for 2021?
I want to be a little more intentional on the books I pick to read. I read a TON of books this year and (everyone say it with me) it was an “unprecedented” year so I’m not really sure what to expect of my reading life this next year. I’ll probably set my reading goal on Goodreads for like 25 books and see where I go from there haha! I do know that I am joining Jenni Sauer’s #IvoryPalaceReading 2021 Reading Challenge this year! It’s got some pretty cool prompts for choosing books to read. She goes by @ivorypalaceprincess on Instagram if you want to check her and the challenge out!

What are your most anticipated reads of 2021?
To be honest, I know of a few books but I'm not really on top of it this year xD

- Written in Starlight by Isabel Ibañez (a companion book to Woven in Moonlight with South American and Tomb Raider vibes!!)
- Namesake by Adrienne Young (the second book in the Fable duology!)
- Operation Grendel by Daniel Schwabauer (Mr. S and his program OYAN has been so influential in my writing so I am so geeked for his next book! It's sci-fi and journalism and government propaganda and I want to read it so bad!!)
- My Contrary Mary by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows (A companion novel to My Lady Jane but this one is about Mary queen of Scots and I am all here for it)
- Fat Chance, Charlie Vega by Crystal Maldonado (rom-com with a fat brown girl as the main charrie?? Heck yes!)
- The Tea Dragon Tapestry by Katie/Kay O'Neill (the 3rd book in her Tea Dragon graphic novels and they are so wholesome!!)

BONUS: What writing goals do I have for 2021?
I know for sure that I want to write more xD In 2020, I wrote a short story and then wrote 28k in NaNo and although it felt great to do those things, I would like to spread out the writing throughout the entire year so I’m not cramming it all at one time LOL I know I keep saying this but I really want to finish the first draft of my WIP  “The Deadly BINGO Society”. I also want to write another short story or two through the year :)

Can't wait to share my reading journey with you in 2021! Until next time!
